Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

Creating opportunity

For Modulaire Group, advancing gender equality starts inside the organization. Operating in a sector traditionally dominated by men, the company is working to ensure women have equal access to careers, leadership roles, and professional development.

Its approach combines recruitment initiatives, training, flexible working policies, and a culture that values diverse perspectives. Policies designed to support employees include flexible working arrangements, parental support, and programs that help individuals balance career progression with family responsibilities.

By embedding these practices across its international operations, Modulaire aims to ensure that women can enter, remain in, and advance within the workforce rather than being forced to step back at key life stages.

Representation matters, not just for fairness, but for the performance of the business. Diverse teams bring different ideas and better solutions to support the sustainability objectives of customers and partners. “Achieving this requires fresh perspectives on materials and processes, as well as innovation in product design. That’s why Modulaire Group is dedicated to celebrating engineering achievement, while fostering opportunities for diverse talent to develop their careers in this industry,” says Richard Ingram, Interim CEO and Chairman, Modulaire Group.

Global impact

Headquartered in the UK and operating across more than 20 countries, Modulaire delivers modular space solutions, including classrooms, medical facilities, workforce housing, and childcare centers.

The company employs thousands of people in a wide range of roles, from engineering and logistics to corporate functions. This global footprint gives the company the ability to influence workplace culture across regions.

Making change happen

Workplace culture is not just about policies – it is about realizing change. “Gender bias is a waste of human potential,” says Inder Poonaji, Group Director of ESG and Sustainability at Modulaire Group.

Modulaire has been increasing female representation across its teams, including in operational roles where women have historically been underrepresented. The company has introduced mentorship programs and leadership development initiatives designed to help women build confidence, skills, and networks.

These measures help create an environment where women are not only hired but also retained and promoted. The result is a workforce that better reflects the communities Modulaire serves, where talent and ability – rather than gender – determine opportunity.

One example of proactive action took place at the Algeco Nordics facility, where an anonymous survey was undertaken to identify areas for improvement in preparation for International Women’s Day. The findings informed a company-wide digital meeting with all female employees, where current practices were reviewed, feedback gathered, and additional steps defined to strengthen gender equality and inclusion.

What does a sustainable future look like?

Modulaire’s efforts align directly with SDG 5, to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, which calls for equal participation and leadership opportunities for women at all levels of decision-making. By embedding equality into recruitment, retention, and advancement, the company contributes to systemic change within its sector.

The organization’s broader sustainability strategy recognizes that social impact begins with how people are treated at work. Progress comes from consistent action. By fostering an inclusive culture, Modulaire is helping to open doors in industries where women have historically faced barriers – demonstrating that engineering excellence and gender equality can advance together.
