The Grange Institution is an international primary school in Singapore dedicated to producing well-rounded, global citizens who will thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
Founded in 2018, The Grange teaches a unique curriculum that includes the internationally recognized Cambridge International Primary Curriculum framework of English, mathematics, science, and Global Perspectives. This is complemented by the school’s own future-focused “Cre8tors-in-Action” philosophy, teaching core competencies such as construction and design, respect for the environment, entrepreneurial spirit, active citizenship, and recognizing real-world issues.
The result is a dynamic and creative atmosphere, where the school’s core values of respect, responsibility, and creativity can flourish in a family-orientated setting, in which every child feels happy, valued, and cared for.
The Grange is committed to teaching the importance of sustainability and of understanding and maintaining a healthy relationship with both the natural world and our man-made environment. The school occupies a lush campus in Singapore’s green belt, which provides the setting for its “Green Granger” initiative of immersive outdoor learning.
As students follow the “Green Granger” trail, they take an active role in organic horticulture, biology, and recycling, raising their awareness of biodiversity, sustainability, and environmental issues. It’s an educational approach that has helped the school win multiple awards, including Sustainable Schools of the Year at the 2023 and 2024 Singapore Education Awards.
“Before, sustainability was about keeping the Earth alive by not cutting down trees and picking up trash,” says former student Ysabela Gonzales. “But sustainability to me now doesn’t only mean keeping the Earth alive but also improving on it and making it its best self.”
Located in Singapore, The Grange is part of Crestar Education Group, a leading provider of preschool education, childcare services, child-enrichment courses, and adult education programs across the Asia-Pacific region.
There’s a lot to learn on the “Green Granger” trail. It’s a living, evolving ecosystem that encompasses five distinct zones, each offering different perspectives on the world around us, from an aquatic environment to a forestry area.
Students have hands-on roles maintaining the trail and getting involved with sustainable food production techniques such as composting. They also conduct experiments, collect data, and use technology, discovering what it means to be an active learner in the process. “One thing I’ve learned at The Grange is that not all kids learn from writing on a board,” says Ysabela.
The Grange is committed to SDG 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
“Both children and adults can benefit from playing in the outdoors,” says parent Charmaine Lau. “Even in Singapore, which is an urban setting, we can learn a lot about ecology and environmental sciences.”
There are more than 20 different nationalities represented within the school’s diverse learning environment.
