The Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) is the learned society of the engineering profession in Kenya.
The Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) is a statutory body established through the Engineers Act, 2011, responsible for registration of engineers and engineering firms and the regulation of engineering professional services in Kenya.
The theme for World Engineering Day 2025, is “Shaping Our Sustainable Future Through Engineering”,
The IEK in collaboration with EBK is planning the 2025 World engineering day (WED) celebrations on 4th March 2025 at The University of Nairobi and online. The event will kick off with a procession in Nairobi starting at 7:30 AM, followed by a full-day conference at the University of Nairobi. The conference will feature roundtable panel discussions on sustainability, the Emerging Engineers Innovation and Awards, a media press briefing, and the launch of the IEK Career Week, scheduled from March 5 to 7, 2025.
WED will also be commemorated across Kenya through IEK’s eight branches, covering all 47 counties. Branch celebrations will include mentorship sessions in high schools and universities, processions, beach clean-up activities, social media campaigns and tree-planting exercises.
The Institution of Engineers of Kenya aims to achieve the following objectives through both pre-event and the WED celebration itself:
Acknowledge the contributions of engineers in shaping Kenya’s development.
Emphasize how engineers are crucial in addressing issues like poverty alleviation, urbanization, and industrialization.
Advocate for greater participation of professional engineers in both national and county-level projects.
Facilitate sessions that inspire and guide the next generation of engineers.
Highlight the role of engineering in achieving Kenya’s Vision 2030 goals, focusing on innovation and sustainable development.
We anticipate a diverse group of participants from various sectors, including:
Engineers, policymakers, and experts from across the globe
Graduates, professionals, consultants, and educators.
Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies: Particularly those involved in infrastructure, energy, Water, transport, and education.
Representatives from the private sector, including key industries that rely on engineering expertise.
Government officials responsible for national development strategies and the implementation of SDGs.
Achieving Kenya’s development goals, requires a collective effort to steer the engineering profession towards innovative and sustainable solutions. Through collaborative action and the promotion of engineering excellence, we can build a future that benefits all.
